Trust Board

Our Trustees are a collection of inimitable, experienced individuals all of which share a central belief in the importance of education alongside a passion for improving the life-chances for all of the young people within our trust. Our Trustees have a fiduciary duty to act in the best interests of the Trust.

Our Trustees form the trust board and have overall responsibility and ultimate decision-making authority for all the work of BILTT, and in particular the running of each academy within our MAT.

This work is implemented via strategic planning and the setting of policy and ensuring the oversight of financial control. It is managed through business planning, monitoring of budgets, performance appraisal, the setting and monitoring of standards and the implementation of quality assurance processes. In this work, the board is aided by a small number of subcommittee – as demonstrated in our governance structure.

BILTT’s model of governance is designed to recognise the overall responsibility of the Trust Board; the line management of Headteachers by the CEO/Executive Principal; and the support and challenge of the Trust’s Local Governing Bodies (LGB).  Please see individual school websites for LGB information.

The law places accountability for the educational outcomes and financial diligence of the Trust firmly with the Trustees and the CEO as Accounting Officer. Much of this responsibility is located at Trust Board level. However, a fundamental principle for our Trust, is that effective governance is best delivered as close as possible to the point of impact of decisions. For this reason, we have developed a governance structure that delegates key accountabilities to our Governing Board via our scheme of delegation.

Kevin has lived in Bedfordshire all of his life and has been a school governor at Kempston Special Schools for 12 years, being Vice Chair of Trustees of St Johns, then BILTT MAT, before becoming Chair of Trustees.

She grew up in a family who fostered children with and without SEND and understands the lifelong challenges that these young people face. Early in her career, she worked in residential settings for adults and children with severe, profound and multiple disabilities and is acutely aware of the need to develop maximum independence for all pupils from the day they join an educational setting. She has worked at different levels of educational management in schools and is currently Inclusion Manager in a diverse local primary school where a significant number of pupils have SEND and/or emotional  needs. Kerrie is proud to support BILTT and contribute to driving the delivery of high quality education for pupils with SEND.

Rob has lived in the area for nearly 30 years. His daughter, now 25, attended St John’s throughout her school career; the confident and courageous young lady that she has now become is due, in no small part, to the dedication, expertise and care of all at St John’s. Rob previously served as a trustee – including a period as Chair – and governor to St John’s prior to that.
